Plagiolepis taurica

Description

This is a small, claustral and polygynous (multi-queen) ant species that is fast and aggressive. The queens are reddish in color, while the workers can range in color from yellow, brown, dark brown, black, to reddish shades. Younger workers are lighter in color, and become darker as they get older. This is a very prolific and resourceful species. Their rapid reproduction requires large amounts of food. In the wild, if there is not enough food in a given area, the entire colony quickly move to a more suitable site. It’s important to keep them in a formicarium with proper escape prevention!

Feeding: Honey and insects.

Reproduction: They reproduce quickly in warm conditions, and a mature colony can contain several thousand workers.

Hibernating: At 5-8°C, from the end of November to the end of March.
More information on hibernating can be found in this video.
