Description
This is a small, claustral and polygynous (multi-queen) ant species that is swift and aggressive. Queens are reddish in color, while workers come in shades of yellow, brown, dark brown, black, and reddish. Younger workers are lighter in color, and they become darker when they get older. This is a very prolific and resourceful species. Their rapid reproduction requires large amounts of food. In nature, if there is not enough food in a given area, they quickly move the entire colony to a more suitable site. It is important to keep them in a formicarium with proper escape prevention!
Feeding: Honey and insects.
Reproduction: They reproduce quickly in warm conditions, and a mature colony can contain several thousand workers.
Wintering: At 5-8°C, from late November to the end of March.
More information on wintering can be found in this video.
