Description
A monogynous (single-queen), claustral ant species. The queen and the workers are yellowish-brown in color, with a distinctive posture, holding their abdomen slightly raised. They live under stones or dead wood in the forests of Australia, preferring medium to high humidity levels. The workers with stingers mainly forage at ground level, rarely climbing higher. They actively modify their environment. This species is easy to care for and recommended for beginners, being popular and sought after due to its active behavior, striking appearance, and large size.
Feeding: In addition to honey and insects, they can occasionally be given small amounts of oily seeds (e.g., walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds) to provide all the necessary nutrients.
Reproduction: Initially, they reproduce slowly. In the first year, they raise 30-40 workers, by the second year, the colony may reach several hundred workers. A mature colony can become quite populous, with several thousand workers.
Hibernation: As a tropical ant species, they do not require hibernation.
