Description
This is a monogynous (single-queen), claustral American ant species. They are polymorphic, with workers appearing in three different sizes (minor, media, major). This species tolerates temporary water or food shortages well. They have elongated shape, with bright red heads and thoraxes and black abdomens. The queen’s expected lifespan can reach up to 10-15 years.
Feeding: Honey and insects.
Reproduction: The colony reproduces slowly at first, raise 25-35 workers in the first year, but by the third year, they can reach a population of 100 workers. A mature colony consists of a few thousand workers.
Hibernating: As a tropical ant species, they do not require wintering. However, during the winter months, approximately from December to February, they stop laying eggs. During this period, heating is not necessary, and room temperature is recommended, but they still need to be fed as usual.
T. Barbara –
Nálunk 1 éves a kolónia, minor media major pipa, most nagy náluk a baby boom.
