Camponotus pilicornis

Description

This monogynous (single queen), claustral ant species comes from South Europe. Their heads are reddish, while their thoraxes and abdomens shows a yellowish pattern. It is a polymorphic species, their workers have three different sizes (minor, media, major). The mature colony can reach a population of several thousand workers. It is an active, aggressive species that adapts well to its habitat. They are resilient, can tolerate temporary water or food shortages. The expected lifespan of the queen can reach up to 10-15 years.

Food: With honey and insects.

Reproduction: The colony reproduces slowly, raising 10-20 workers in the first year. However, by the third year, they can reach a population of 100 workers.
