Description
This Asian ant species is recommended for beginners, easy to keep, and does not require hibernating. The queen has a black and yellowish color, while the workers are brown. Some color variations may appear. It is a monogynous (single queen), claustral and polymorphic species, that means they have three worker castes (minor, media, major). The workers are robust, strong, and resilient. In addition to their strong mandibles, they defend themselves by spraying acid. They become more active and develop significantly faster in warmer conditions. This species reproduces quickly, their colonies consists of several thousand workers and can tolerate temporary drought. The queen’s expected lifespan can reach up to 10-15 years.
Feeding: Honey and insects.
Reproduction: This species reproduces rapidly. The colony grows quickly even in the early stages, with 5-15 workers raised in the first few months (under ideal conditions). The colony can reach up to 1000 workers in a year. The colony is timid while they have only a few workers.
Hibernating: As a tropical species, hibernating is not required.
