Description
This species is recommended for beginners, they are monogynous (single queen) and claustral. They have three worker castes present: minor, media, and major. The workers are massive, strong, and resilient. Both the queen and the workers are strikingly patterned, with a black color and shiny golden hairs covering their abdomens. In addition to their strong mandibles, they defend themselves by spraying acid. They become more active and develop faster in warmer conditions. They establish colonies consisting of several thousand workers. In case of danger, the workers alert their mates by tapping their heads. The queen’s expected lifespan can reach 10-15 years.
Feeding: Honey and insects.
Reproduction: Initially, the colony reproduces slowly, raising a maximum of 25-40 workers in the first year, but by the second year, they can reach a population of 100 workers. Like other Camponotus species, the colony remains timid when they have few workers, but once they reach several hundred individuals, they become bold and aggressively defend their territory.
Wintering: This is a tropical ant species and does not require wintering. During this period, heating is not necessary, and room temperature is recommended. They remain active, and feeding them should continue as usual.

Ádámtól egy kiállításon vásároltam a királynőt a téli hónapok előtt, pár fiasítással. A királynő él és virul, bár szerintem leginkább fél, de ezen kívül a tartásáról egyelőre véleményt nem tudok nyilvánítani, mivel értékelésem írásakor még mindig a téli hónapokat töltjük. Számomra az egyik legkülönlegesebb faj, amit valaha szabad szemmel is láttam (ezzel együtt a c. fedtschenkoi-t ütötte ki a nyeregből).
