Description
This Australian ant species is recommended for beginners, monogynous (having a single queen) and claustral. The queen has a red head, while her thorax and abdomen are black. The small workers are aggressive and resourceful, well adapted to their environment, and quickly find food. In its natural habitat, this species can adapt to wildfires and other disasters, often being one of the first to repopulate after these events. The small black workers are quite territorial, actively foraging both on the ground and in trees. They are also aggressive towards other ants, defending themselves with their strong acid and mandibles.
Feeding: Honey and insects.
Reproduction: The colony initially grows slowly, with only 25-40 workers in the first year. However, by the second year, it can reach up to 100 workers. A mature colony can be quite large, consisting of several thousand workers.
Hibernating: As a tropical ant species, it does not require wintering.
