In the first years, we operated as an online store, and in 2022, we opened our shop in Dorog, approximately 35 km from Budapest, near the northern border of Hungary. The surrounding mountainous areas provided new opportunities for mapping ant species living in the wild, while in the shop, we can observe and care for our ants under controlled conditions. Primarily, we do not function as a traditional store; rather, we perform the background work for our webshop from here. However, we have ant farms on display that visitors can view, ask questions about, and receive advice on ant keeping. Additionally, we attend various terrarium expos where we also exhibit some ant farms. At these events, there is also the opportunity to meet us, talk about ants, and learn about different species.
Ádám Bakos – Entrepreneur, digital content creator, founder of AntSite.
Born in 1993, he graduated from the Economic Vocational School, and later studied finance and accounting, followed by business and management at a university. Even before high school, he was interested in filmmaking, helping at the local television station, and also creating his own videos and animations. Since 2016, he has been producing content for the AntSite YouTube channel.
He founded AntSite in 2016, and soon after, he also learned photography in addition to filmmaking, so he could better and more widely showcase various ant species. He has now taken thousands of photos of hundreds of ant species, and has published two editions of his own book, the first in 2020, and the second in 2022. His most recent book features more than 700 macro and supermacro photographs of 94 native ant species. Currently, in addition to creating videos and running the business, he is researching the habitats and distribution of various ant species in nature, registering them on community data collection websites, and working on additional books.
